I could hear Jake yelling, and even felt him shaking me and nipping my ear, but could not wake up. I broke down crying and fell to my knees. I had given up. It was then that reality hit me like a brick and I woke up, covered in tears and screaming. I buried my face in Jake's chest. "I-I saw it. I saw them. I saw myself. What they did to me. It was like I was reliving it. I couldn't do anything to help her. All I could do was watch and cry. I-....." I started choking on my own sobs. "It was horrible."

Jake hugged her close to him, rocking from side to side. "Shhh, they can't ever get you again. I'll always protect you, ok? Always." He said, putting his head on hers. "You won't ever have to go through that." He added, hugging her tightly.

I hug him tighter, refusing to let go. "Please don't let them get me again. I cannot do it again. Just seeing what they did..."

Jake hugged her tighter. "Never. They will never come near you again. I won't let them. You will never ever have to see that again." He said, rocking back and forth. His hand gently petted her hair.

I look up at him, my eyes puffy and red from crying. I smile at him while more tears stream down my face. I kiss him on the cheek. "Thank you."

Jake blushed a little, but smiled at her. "Of course." He said, still petting her. His hug loosened a little, and he began purring.

I smile knowing that I am safe with him. I purr and lay my head on his chest again. "It's amazing. It seems that not all people are bad."

Jake purred a little louder. "How could all people be bad? You're here." He said, petting her head, then scratching behind her ear.

My ear twitches at the touch and I start to laugh. "I guess you're right. Although not many know I'm here."

Jake laughed with her. "I'm glad I do." He purred, ruffling her hair a little. His tail gently touched hers, but he didn't realize it.

I lightly blush at his statement. I feel our tails touch and I blush a little deeper. He's so awesome.

Jake purred a little louder, his eyes closing. His ears were perked up, but otherwise he was completely relaxed. "You are a really nice girl." He whispered in her ear, purring all the while.

I whisper something so quietly that I hoped he couldn't hear it. "I like you." I look to him nervously hoping he didn't hear it.

Jake ears twitched as he barely caught what she said. His blush became deeper, but he kept petting her. "Before you do that... You should know my past, if you want to." He said calmly, yet it was soft.

Jake noticed she seemed worried. "It's ok. When I was a kit, I was abandoned. I was placed on the step of an older women, who took me in even though I'm a hybrid. I called her Nanny, and she looked after me for years. She had many cats, and I learned to love them. I even named each and everyone, and I learned their personalities. For 15 years I lived with Nanny, until she died. It's been 4 years since then, and I don't trust most anyone. You are different." He told her gently, petting her. A tear fell from his eye.

Jake stopped purring. "I-I'm sorry. I couldn't help but hear..." He said looking down. He stopped petting her, but his hand rested on her hair.

"It's ok but I was really hoping you didn't hear it." I scratch my ear and stroke my tail. I looked up at him and ran my hand through his hair.
